Episode 22: Celebrating Progress, Not Just Numbers-A Year-End Reality Check
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
As the year wraps up, it’s really easy to look at your A1C, the scale, or your app data and feel like you didn’t do enough. I recorded this episode as a reminder that progress isn’t just measured in numbers, and that you’re not failing just because life got messy.
In this episode, I talk honestly about why end-of-year reflection so often turns into self-criticism, especially when you’re managing diabetes. I share why numbers can be helpful tools without being the full story, and how so much real progress goes unseen when we only focus on metrics.
I also dig into New Year’s resolutions without the “new year, new you” pressure. I’m a big believer in goal setting, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using January as a fresh start if that’s what gets you moving. The key is choosing goals that fit your real life, not your fantasy life, and learning how to build consistency without burning yourself out.
If you’re feeling discouraged by your numbers, tempted to punish yourself in January, or worried you’re starting over yet again, this episode is for you. You’re not starting from zero...you’re starting from experience.
In this episode, I talk about:
- Why December reflection can turn into harsh self-judgment
- What health numbers do and don’t tell us
- How to recognize progress beyond the scale or A1C
- A more realistic approach to New Year’s goals
- Why consistency matters more than intensity
- Letting January be a continuation, not a condemnation
If you’re heading into the new year craving clarity, compassion, and a more sustainable way forward, I hope this episode helps you reset without shame.
